A Real Winter

Looking back on last winter, it feels like it could not be further from what we’ve experienced this season thus far. The field crops are currently slumbering under several inches of snow for the second week in a row. We are looking at another snow this weekend, fortunately, before the temperatures become truly arctic. Fingers crossed we continue to have at least a little snow coverage to help block out single digit winds. Compare this to my memories of last year when I was out planting things in frost-free ground most of the off-season. I was honored to speak at the Woodmoore Garden Club meeting recently when a seasoned fellow gardener pointed out that the weather for planting has ALWAYS been unpredictable, its just even more so now.

Hope you are able to take this downtime to do some planning and dreaming for the upcoming year!
